Was born in Lisbon, in 1961. Architect by the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon (FAUTL), in 1984.
In 1987 opens his own workshop. Contributes as an associated workshop, with the architect Álvaro Siza from 1993 to 2003, and with th architect Gonçalo Byrne since 1993.
Invited Professor in the Department of Architecture of the Technic Superior Institute, since 2004. Invited Professor in the course ETS of Architecture of the University of Navarra, Pamplona since October 2010.
Main awards:
– 1st Prize in the 1st Edition of the Municipal Prize of Beja 2000, em 1997, with the House André Rodrigues;
-Honorable mention in the III Trienal of Architecture of Sintra, in 1998, with the House Saraiva Lima in the Quinta da Foz in Alcácer do Sal;
– 1st prize in the 3rd Edition of the Municipal prize of Beja 2000, in 1999, with the Housing Building in the Street Prof. Janeiro Acabado.
-Selected with the House Saraiva Lima in Famais do Meio, Santa Catarina, Alcácer do Sal, to the final phase of the Secil prize of Architecture 2002, and for the Prize Contemporanean Architecture Bienal of the European Union – Prize Mies Van der Rohe 2003.
– Nomination with the House Carlos Barros, Aroucas, Castro Marim for the V Iberoamerican Bienal of Architecture and Urbanism in 2006.
– Finalist of the European Priez for the Urban Public Spaces 2006; Selected finalist for the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2006, with the Requalification of the surroundings of the Monestery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, Alcobaça, in co-authorship with Gonçalo S. Byrne;
– Nominated for the Prize Contemporanean Architecture Bienal of the European Union – Prize Mies Van der Rohe 2007, and nomination for the Secil Prize of Architecture 2007, with the Requalification of the surroundings of the Monestery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça (in co-authorship with architect Gonçalo S. Byrne).
– Finalist of the Prize FAD Architecture 2013 with the Remodel of the headquarters building of the bank of Portugal.
– Winner of the National Prize for the Urban Reabilitation in the category of Best Intervention in the City of Lisbon with the Building of welkoming and Requalification of the Eixo da Rua da Vitória, in Lisbon; and Mention Best Intervention and Restauration, in the same prize, with the headquarters building of the bank of Portugal, in Lisbon.
- Selected in the Panorama Iberoamericano de Obras da IX BIAU - The Iberoamerican Bienal of Architecture and Urbanism - 2014, with the Assisted Pedestrian Route of the Baixa ao Castelo de S.Jorge, in Lisboa; and winner of the Prize FAD Architecture 2014 with the same work.
